At the beginning of January 2023, the popular hiking trail around the "Veischedetal" was awarded the "Quality Trail Wanderbares Deutschland" prize for the fourth time at the CMT trade fair in Stuttgart. The Wanderbares Deutschland award sets nationwide standards for hiking trails in order to improve the hiking infrastructure in the regions in the long term. The trail is divided into 4km sections, which are then assessed against 23 optional and 9 core criteria. Each 4 km section requires 11 points from the optional criteria. The core criteria must be met along the entire trail.
The bark beetle infestation posed a particular challenge during the certification process. Many trails were affected by the removal of wood and one or two markings on the trees were also lost. However, these hurdles were overcome and the Veischeder Sonnenpfad can look forward to another 3 years of certification.
The Veischeder Sonnenpfad Trail, marked 'V', offers about 37 kilometres of walking pleasure at its best. It was inaugurated in 2011 by the restaurateurs of the "Gastronomie Veischedetal" interest group and certified for the first time in 2013. The Sonnenpfad Trail can easily be divided into two stages. The tours offer plenty of views and nature experiences on winding paths with the odd challenging climb. In addition to pretty half-timbered villages, the castle "Burg Bilstein" and the Hohe Bracht invite you to conquer them. The hosts of the "Veischedetal Gastronomie" along the Veischeder Sonnenpfad not only offer cosy places to stop for refreshment, but also a variety of accommodation options.
